The Rochester Yacht Club hosted an IU Seminar from 26-30 September 2007 in conjunction with the Richardson Trophy – an event with long traditions and challenges between the yacht clubs in the Great Lakes. Skip Shumway, Commodore the yacht club and owner Shumway Marine provided brand new Sonars for all the teams at the event.

Host club Rear Commodore Hank Stuart and his team did an exemplary job coming off a successful IFDS Worlds to prepare a conducive seminar and exam setting.  Participation by match racer and author Dave Perry added a competitor dimension to the discussion at the seminar and the debriefs at the event, bringing a lively new dynamic.

A range of breezy and light open water conditions proved an excellent regatta forum for putting classroom learning to use.

The level of the delegates was extraordinary high, both with regard to rules knowledge, understanding of the game and umpiring. This seminar could help making it easier for organisers in US to arrange high level match racing events.
