West Marine Pacific Cup
Hawaii

Mari Cha IV, the 140-foot monohull racing machine, obliterated the record of the West Marine Pacific Cup race from San Francisco Bay to Kaneohe Bay yesterday by more than one day.
Robert MILLER’s Mari Cha IV crossed the finish line of the 13th biennial race at 18:13 last night, completing the 2,070-nautical-mile journey in 5 days, 5 hours, 38 minutes, 10 seconds, adding this record to his six-day record crossing the Atlantic.

Mari Cha IV joins Pyewacket, Windward Passage, Merlin, Blackfin, Kathmanu and others in the recordbook of transocean legends.

Roy DISNEY'S Pyewacket set the previous fastest crossing in 1998 of 6 days, 14 hours, 22 minutes, 20 seconds.
Meanwhile, the fleet leaders in corrected time are well past the halfway mark as they zero in on Hawai. Winnetou, Morpheus and Natazak continue to battle for Division E and overall race honours.

The other division leaders by corrected time are: Eyrie in doublehanded, First Light in A, California Girl in B, Inspired Environments in C, Surprise in D and Braveheart in F.
